Jan De Nul is executing the largest cable installation contract in its history for the $3.8 billion Lightning project in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This pioneering HVDC submarine cable system will connect ADNOC’s offshore operations to TAQA’s clean onshore power grid, enabling a 3.2 GW green power supply to decarbonize offshore oil production. The project includes nearly 1,000 kilometers of submarine cables and converter stations supplied by Hitachi Energy. The consortium of KEPCO, Kyuden, and EDF will operate the system alongside ADNOC and TAQA, with ownership reverting to ADNOC after 35 years.
